“Too Blessed” Woodrow The Entertainer drops new video

Woodrow The Entertainer is no stranger to the Detroit Hip Hop Scene and the grind it takes to create an avenue for his unique sound. It takes a certain amount of grit, and relentlessness to pursue a music career in Detroit full time. Fresh off of his Movie Premiere for first acting role in the movie “The Coney”. This brother has been consistent for years, promotional runs, awards wins and nominations, hitting the road for out of state shows, gaining radio spins for a few singles over his career, more recently “Triple Double” , “Bop It” , and “All Ya Love”. Woodrow The Entertainer creativity extends beyond stereotypical labels and embodies Detroit hood nuances without the street politics. I call it blue collar rap… the type of artistry that is relatable without glamorizing the darker side of hip hop story telling that mainstream America likes to bottle all Black artists in. He is what you would consider a Quadruple Threat as a Recording Artist / Producer / RecordingEngineer / Actor with records ranging from HipHop to R&B to Afro Beats. Knowing the type of energy Woodrow brings, I had to be a fly on the wall at his video shoot for his new single “Too Blessed”
Taking it back to one evening at the studio, chill vibes, the aromatic essence of herb fills the room and the announcement of a new record was made. A few seconds of silence and only the clicks from his mouse were present. He pulls up this track, so robust, awakening my ears like a Golden Honey latte made with oat milk and a shot of espresso! The melodic groove was inspired by “Didn’t Cha Know” an Erykah Badu track produced by The G.O.A.T J Dilla (not up for debate). What’s even more beautiful about this songs’ production is that Dilla was able to find gems in records that most hip hop enthusiasts would breeze by in a record shop. Fun fact, Dilla produced the track with a sample from a jazz soul fusion track titled Dreamflower by Tarika Blue. Woodrow took a soulful Dilla track and curated his song “Too Blessed” simply titled yet spoke volumes about where he is as an artist, as a man and continues to bring substance to the game.
Monday January 2nd, it’s cold but Spirits are high. About 15 people gathered in front of the historical Motown Museum to celebrate and participate in the video shoot for “Too Blessed”. With my coffee in hand I received instructions for placement and expectations for the scene, where we are to March behind the man of the hour. Smiles, high energy, even some out of town spectators enjoyed the shoot. Watching “Joei Redd” (@ReddEyeDp) maneuver the shots with smooth transitions and control the flow of the participants, yea this was a vibe. The most notable moments from the shoot was the energy when every black fist in our group was raised in unison… I felt the genuineness from each King and Queen on set., Woodrow’s mother front and center, gleaming love and pride for her son, the overall support that he had as an artist that day, and of course the message in his music. If you’re looking for something to cleanse your musical palate definitely add Woodrow The Entertainer to your rotation like yesterday.
